In the next of our Meet the Team series, we talk to Architectural Assistant, Alexandra Gavrila.
What got you into architecture originally?
The first time I became aware of my interest in architecture as an art form was in primary school. In later years one of my teachers recommended me to apply to a School of Fine Arts, a decision that changed my life! Buildings have always attracted me in a special, unique way. It was love at first sight; if you want to see proof just look at my Instagram account!
Describe your role at Lees Associates
As a Part 2 Architectural Assistant my main role in our team is to model and draw our designs in BIM, coordinating with all the other design disciplines. I have been working at LA for 6 months and I'm very grateful that I have been accepted into this wonderful team. The work we do can be demanding but at the same time it is very rewarding.
Where do your particular passions, skills and interests lie?
Besides architecture, photography and long spontaneous walks are two things that help me to discover new places, cities, and people. I recently did 27km in one walk; my feet hurt for 3 days! These two hobbies have led me to buy a professional camera. All I need is a great weather and more spare time…
Another passion of mine is web development / design. I intend to build my own website very soon.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I know that it sounds like a cliché, but I enjoy everything that this job offers me. I’m a detail-oriented person, fast-learner, quality-focused and passionate about what I want to achieve. I love the challenge and I’m very keen to learn from others.
Which project are you most proud of?
Since joining the LA team I have worked on a single prime residential project near Regent's Park. It is a demanding and challenging but rewarding project. It is a listed house with a rich history but suffered from years of neglect so it keeps throwing up surprises that we need to find solutions for.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to become a chartered Architect and travel the world. I also plan to resume my web design courses.
