In the next in our regular ‘Meet the Team’ series, we talk to Architectural Technician, Paige Toki.
What got you into architecture originally?
From a young age I was into art and design and continued to enjoy this all through high school so when it came to deciding which career path to take, I decided that architecture was a great way to continue to use my creativity in my profession life. I have also always had a passion for history and historic architecture so being here in the UK allows me to be amongst this and gain more experience in heritage work, which is less common in New Zealand being such a young country in comparison.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
One of the things I enjoy most about my job is the detailing, where you have completed the concept design of a scheme and then you gradually develop the intricate details of the design in order to make them a reality.
What project are you most proud of?
I first started working in the architectural industry right after the 2011 Christchurch earthquake (I was studying in Christchurch when it happened) so I was really proud to be a part of the rebuild of the city. I worked on a number of residential rebuilds and lots of repair work. This was very satisfying, both professionally and personally, as I was able to work closely with my clients and help them to restore their homes.
What are your interests outside of the office?
I enjoy travelling and experiencing new cultures and new food, playing Hockey and spending time at the beach.
What are your plans for the future?
I will eventually move back home to Christchurch, New Zealand where I will continue to work towards becoming a registered Architect. I also plan on designing and building my first home!
