Experts Reveal the Design Trends You Must Know for 2024

Searching for innovative design ideas for your upcoming residential or commercial project? Look no further. Our team has consulted a range of industry peers and collaborators to discover what’s on the design agenda for 2024. From irregular rugs to the digital environment, we have something to inspire everyone.

Irregular Rugs

Multi-award-winning, international luxury interior design studio Taylor Howes predicts that irregular rugs will be all the rage in the year ahead. In keeping with a broader move away from symmetry and straight lines in interior design, irregular rugs serve both a practical and a visual purpose. Forget circles, rectangles, and squares: handmade rugs can be custom-designed to fit the shape of a room – particularly useful in older properties, where irregular proportions are typical, or to accommodate a specific furniture arrangement.

Digital Environments

Technology masters and integrators Ideaworks anticipate the rise of the digital environment in the year ahead. An increasing interest in digital experiences and immersive spaces as entertainment is driving demand in the home.

The concept of the ‘home cinema’ has also inspired content creators to craft customised experiences within a digital environment. Direct-view LED screens now come in ceramic tile forms that allow rooms to become fully “tiled”, like a video wallpaper.

AI will increasingly become part of the digital artist's palette of tools. Experiences can range from simple, interactive, low-resolution lighting environments to fully immersive spaces with content mapped on floors, walls and ceilings. Digital environments could soon supplement or replace gyms and cinemas on the luxury shopping list of interior design must-haves.

As our clients get younger, we have also seen a growing concern for sustainable processes, systems and materials in the projects we undertake. We couldn’t be more delighted, and we look forward to both improving and influencing on this front for many years into the future.

Colour Drenching

Interior designer Pandora Taylor says that this year it's all about embracing colour and being bolder than ever before. Paint colour is a brilliant tool for creating maximum impact, especially if you're on a limited budget. A great way to introduce drama and impact is by colour-drenching a key space, like a living room. If you apply one colour across all surfaces – the skirting to the ceiling – you create an effect that feels unexpected while providing a great backdrop for everything else in the room. Pandora’s team have colour-drenched a number of rooms in various projects, including a terracotta living room painted in Farrow & Ball's Book Room Red and a bedroom in Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball, which has been complemented by blue-stained bespoke joinery.

Customisable Lighting Solutions

Innovative home technology specialist Tillman Domotics predicts Ketra lighting systems, an emerging technology in the realm of AV and home automation, will be big in the coming year. Ketra’s dynamic LED lighting systems allow users to tailor the lighting colour, temperature, intensity, and ambience in their homes according to their preferences. The technology gives homeowners precise control over each individual light source, ensuring a harmonious and immersive lighting environment.
